Fantasy faceups.

I just finished another commission.  This one was based on one of her owner’s characters and it is the second fantasy type faceups I’ve done recently.

I’m thinking of adding a fantasy faceup category to my commission thread.  I’ve also upped my prices to $30 for a faceup.  I think that’s still a very modest price and I may up it again soon especially if I stay this busy.

I just purchased a Sekonic Twinmate L-208 light meter off ebay.

Sekonic Twinmate L-208

Its to go with my Zorki 4 camera that I bought, I’ll post pics of that when it finally arrives.  The zorki is a completely manual camera so I was going to need a light meter.  I had no idea they could be so expensive, that’s why I turned to ebay.  I’m not a professional, I’m just having fun.

I did a few experiments using my nikon D70 and the light meter.

This first picture was taken using the in camera meter (ISO 200, 1/50 shutter speed, f8).

This second picture I took in manual mode using the reading off the light meter (ISO 200, shutter speed 1/50, f5).

Now I know the meters work differently, the in camera one reading reflected light and the hand held one reading incident light.  I’ve also read that digital cameras typically underexpose but I didn’t think the difference would be that much.  I think for all my doll pics I’m going to be using the little light meter.

I finished this girl today.  I’ve been waiting for the end of the school year so I’d have time to work.  I’m so happy with how she turned out!  The flames tattoo was done with watercolor pencils with some acrylic accents, the pencils worked well.

My schedule for the summer is going to be:  wake up at 6:30 and go for a walk with the dog (6:30 is the only acceptable time to walk in the Florida summer), shower, breakfast, work on commissions.  If I can keep that up I should be able to get quite a bit of work done.

Loving my iPhone

It’s been about a month since I got my iPhone. Since pretty much everyone I know has a smartphone I guess it was my turn. I’ve been using it for photos more than anything else. Instagram is my favorite app right now. Here are some of my favorite pics so far.

I promise to update on doll stuff soon, been working on several commissions.

I recently purchased the following little change purses from Cotton Times on Etsy.

I was looking for something to hold all my flash drives so they would be easy to find in my school bag instead of just floating around at the bottom.

She’s a great seller and when there was a postal problem she sent out another purse to me.  She’s got lots of cute purses in her shop, go check it out.

Check out Doll-Lite for an interview I did for them.

If you haven’t visited them before they have some great interviews with artists and craftspeople working in the doll hobby.

I finally got a chance to do the faceup on my new pukifee luna.  I knew I wanted freckles since she will eventually have red hair.  I’m not a fan of the default faceup so I wanted something very soft and natural for her.  I haven’t seen a whole lot of custom lunas yet.

I’m happy with how the freckles came out but they are a pain to photograph.  I used a magnifying ring for the front of my camera lens but that shortens the depth of field so she’s not all in focus.  Also I think the focus spot on my lens is off center.

She is a dream to pose.  I did have to suede her neck to keep her head from tilting back.

She’s the only doll that I have the sleeping face for, so cute!
